The Year That Was 2008

This is the year it was for Emma and I, Just a few of the high lights.
Went camping several times this summer

Tour of Lucas Oil Stadium. Later on in the year I got to go see the Colts play the Bengles

Emma's second Birthday

I cant seem to find pictures of our trip to Detroit but we saw the Yankees and the Tigers play. It was Emmas first MLB game she went to.

Cubs vs. Pirates (MLB Game #2)

The Last Yankees/Red Sox game in Old Yankee Stadium (MLB game #3)

Cubs vr. Brewers (MLB game #4 for the year)

How could I leave out the night I hit the cow? Not a great time, but an odd time.

Fantasy Football

So I am in two leagues this year and shockingly I finished 3rd in both. Why is this shocking? Because I absolutly sucked at changing my lineup this year. I could have had a better seed for the playoffs if I would have kept track on my teams. For example. I knew about 6 hours before the Colts played last Thursday that Marvin Harison would not be playing in their game against Jacksonville. And what did I do? I left him in my starting line-up which could have killed me. The good news is that Peyton Manning had a huge game and I kicked but. Thanks you Peyton for scoring 36 points for me. So what am I going to do to improve next year? Well the bad news for me in the WMC league is that I will have to lose Manning after having him two years in a row, so unless I am able to draft him, I am in trouble there. Maybe I will just pay closer attention to my teams next year.

The Week that Was Christmas Weekend

First off, it has been nice to have my sister home for Christmas. Emma has loved the time that she has spent with her Aunt this week. The week started on Monday when we took Emma to the Bass Pro Shop in Portage. We were told that there was a nice Christmas display there. There wasnt as much as we thought but it was still fun. Here are some pictures from the trip.

There are alot of pictures to show but this is my blog, my daughter, so I will do this my way.

This is as close to a picture of Emma and Santa as we are going to get this year. Can you even find Santa?

Emma and I with a Red Ryder BB Gun. I am kicking myself for not getting this.

Emma and Aunt LeeAnn playing Checkers. Emma also got this chair for Christmas.

Emma in her new mummy sleeping bag.

Emma is ready to go tent camping in the Rockies next summer. Just dont tell grandma we are going to stay in a tent. She has worries about bears or something.

If you ever ask Emma to smile, this is what you will get

Emma and a whole lot of bears

Maybe the coolest gift I got next to my new TV is the strand of Leg Lamp Chistmas Lights I got from my Aunt Gloria and Uncle Lark.

Special Thanks

Special thanks to those who helped me out today even though they will never read this or know who I am. Today as I was driving home from work I came to the intersection of CR 32 and CR 15. As I was turning onto CR 32 I got stuck in a pile of snow left in the intersection by a county plow. About 5-10 guys stopped and got out of seperate cars all heading in differnt directions to get me out. The funny thing is we were unable to get the car out until everyone was left and I was left sitting there about to call a tow truck. I decided to give it one last try putting it is reverse then forward then back in reverse and back forward. Eventualy I was able to get out. What a day. So to all those who stopped to help when it was bellow zero this afternoon, thank you and God bless you all. I know 3 of them were students at NorthWood High School and at least one is on the track team (only know this because of the letter jacket).

Sad day in Indy

Although I love the new Lucas Oil Stadium, The RCA Dome, aka Hoosier Dome, was imploded today. I have many memories of this staduim. Mainly most of the memories come from al the state finals in basketball that my dad and I went to. The best memory was the year Damon Bailey and Bedforn North Larance played Concord. Largest crowd for a high school game. I wish I could have gone down and see it all happen, but here is a video of it

Just what I needed

Today I went to Starbucks and meet up with my high school Youth Pastor, Jeremy Levan. It was what I had been needing. I havent seen Jeremy in a while because he had moved to Wisconin but has recently moved back to Mishawaka to start a church plant. The encouragement that I got from him to keep my life and focus on God and to do what I need to for Emma was well needed. It was good to actually sit down and have a conversation with him since it has probably been 2 years at 3DYC since I actually sat down and had a converstation with him. Long time in coming.

Jobs

As I hear all about Jobs being lost hear in northern Indiana, there sure are a lot of people coming into Bashor and applying for jobs there. I have seen the adds in the Elkhart truth and people are coming out in full force to apply for these open positions and believe me there are positions available. The people coming in are both male and female, a wide range of ages. I saw yesterday a man probably in his 40's and today I saw someone I knew from my days in college who studied youth ministry with me at Bethel.
It is nice to know that during this time, I have a secure job at this time. Praise God!!!

2001 - It was announced that Little League Baseball Inc. would require more detailed documentation of the eligibility of its players. Four months before, the Rolando Paulino Little League team from the Bronx, NY, had its third-place finish taken away after pitcher Danny Almonte was found to be too old to play. Even if the kid was too old, he was still a stud. I wonder where he is now?
2002 A congressional report found that intelligence agencies before Sept. 11, 2001, were poorly organized, poorly equipped and slow to pursue clues that might have prevented that day's terrorist attacks. Seems like a waste of time. Lets look to the future. We only have ourselves to blame.

New Phone

Today I was up for a new Phone from Verizon. I went in thinking that I would buy and envy because of the texting key pad. Instead the salesman convinced me to get the Voyager. I am glad I did. I love the touch screen and the music capability that it has although the Envy has the same thing. What made the decision easier was that the price was the same for a phone that should cost more. I got a great deal. I am however still trying to figure everything out. It is a little different than my Razor that I am used to. Maybe I can text some pictures onto my blog now that I have free internet for a month.

Our Day in Indy

Today my family headed down to Indy. Why? My first ever Colts Game. We were able to get a couple of tickets for some great seats through a family friend who knows a guy who has season tickets. Lower level seats right behind the field Goal. i am sure I was on TV at some time today but I couldnt tape the game since they had the Bears game on CBS up in Northern Indiana so that kind of sucks. Anyways, the game was great with the Colts winning 35-3. It was great to see Payton had a great game esspceially since he is my starting QB for my fanatasy team and it is now playoff time. Should help me out alot. here are some pictures of the day.

While my dad and I were at the colts game, Emma and my mom went to the Childrens Museum. From what my mom said, Emma loved it. Here are a few pictres from that.

1992 San Francisco 49er Jerry Rice catches NFL record 101st touchdown. Someday Marvin Harrison will hold this record (hopefully)
1998 Hugo Chavez elected president of Venezuela. And Americans thought Bush was a bad choice
2002 Winona Ryder was sentenced to 36 months of probation and 480 hours of community service stemming from her conviction for shoplifting from Saks Fifth Avenue. She was also ordered to pay $10,000 in fines and restitution. I still remember the video of her crying her eyes out in the court room. OJ Simpson had the same look yesterday

Clark W. Griswold

So I felt like Clark W. Griswold tonight. My parents asked me to put out their Christmas lights tonight. They wouldnt pick a warmer day couldnt they. It was the coldest day so far this year I think. The wind didnt help thats for sure. At times I got frustrated with lights that didnt work and of course tangeled lights. However I used all of the lights that my parents had that worked including lights that have never been used for years. I would love to know how many lights and extenchin cords I used. At times when lighting a set of lights I sang "Joy to the World" waiting for a drum roll or shaking lights to get them to work with out any luck. Here are some pictures of my work.

The Recession

So I heard this on the radio today. The recession began back in last december. A tie-in to this is that back in last December was the peak of breast implants. Since then, plastic surgery for breast implants have gone down. One doctor said that is true that in the last couple of months sales have been flat (pun intended). Yes this is a true story and statement.

Coming up on Sunday

Thanks to Jack Corwin, the family will be making a trip to Indy. For what you may ask? My dad and I will be going down to see the Colts take on the Cincinnati Bengals. This will be my first NFL game. But the bigger news is where our seats are at. We are sitting in the lower level, section 126. We will be sitting right behind the field goal. So whenever the colts score going from I believe left to right, be watching for me durring the extra point. We are on the top row of the lower level. Should be a great time.

So what will Emma be doing while we are at the game? Grandma will be taking Emma to the Childrens Museum. She should enjoy that. I will post pictures of both the musuem and the game on either Sunday or sometime on Monday.

Today in History

1901-Walt Disney was born
1908 - At the University of Pittsburgh, numerals were first used on football uniforms worn by college football players. Thanks to the University of Pirrsburgh, the jersey industry is probably in the billions.
1933 - Prohibition came to an end when Utah became the 36th state to ratify the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Here is a toast to the farewell of prohibition.
1945 - The so-called "Lost Squadron" disappeared. The five U.S. Navy Avenger bombers carrying 14 Navy flyers began a training mission at the Ft. Lauderdale Naval Air Station. They were never heard from again.
1962 - The U.S. and the Soviet Union agreed to cooperate in the peaceful uses of outer space. What would it be like if we didnt have this agreement? Could you imagine the type of wars we could have in outter space?
2008- OJ Simpson was sentenced to at least 15 years in Jail for armed robbery and kidnapping. Just a few too years late and a few too years short of what he deserves.

Intereresting Fact

i know I am a couple of days early on this but I may forget to do it tommorow and Sunday I am out of town (more on that on my next post). Sunday is of course the 67th aniversary of the day that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. But did you know, the Japanese attacked on a Sunday (the 7th falls on a sunday this year), and the number of navy officers who were killed was 2008. Kind of interesting isnt it? Thanks to Mr. Sleppy (a teacher at Bashor) for providing that information. Now I wanna get my DVD coppy of Tora Tora Tora out and watch it.

Today in History

On Dec. 4, 1945, the Senate approved U.S. participation in the United Nations. This might be the biggest mistake in U.S. History. Now its like we have to ask our mommy if we can go to war.

2000 A Florida state judge refused to overturn Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush's certified victory in Florida, and the U.S. Supreme Court set aside a ruling that had allowed manual recounts. Just think, Al Gore could have been president. How scary would that have been?

This day in History (December 2nd)

Today in 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte crowned himself Emperor of France- the first French emperor in 1000 years. Isn't that like Michael Jackson naming himself the King of Pop? Apparently no one argued here either.

Also in the year 1916 baseball players who are injured now get full pay for duration of their contract. I have a feeling that they weren't getting paid as much as they do now, and they didn't expect their contracts to get so ridiculously high.

Funny Video

I will be honest, I got this off of Derry's blog. and you thought this was a joke when you were a kid. Enjoy

Today in History

Today in History back in 1891 James Naismith created the game of basketball. Shouldn't today be a national holiday? The man who created the greatest game ever made should have a special day for him dont you think?

Emma and I's first Christmas in our new Home

Christmas is less than a year away. Tonight Emma and I put up the tree that my mom and dad are letting me borrow this year. Emma loves the lights of course. I didnt relaize how few ornaments that I have. Oh well, I have alot of sports figures hanging from the tree this year such as Peyton Manning, Derek Jeter, Mickey Mantel, Larry Bird, Jason Giambi, Cal Ripin Jr, Sammy Sosa, and more. Here are some pictures of the tree and other things. Really not too much decorating for Christmas this year.

Emma and I Putting the top of the tree on.

I dont have a star or angel to put on the top of the tree so Peyton Manning with have to do.

How Smart Is Emma

So my mom got some toys for Emma to play with at Bethel Basketball games. One was a Ernie K'nex set. Emma loves this thing. Emma played with it a little bit at home and it took her no time to figure out how to put it together. Heres what I mean.

This is what the finish product should look like

All the pieces

Emma working hard

All she didnt figure out was how to get the legs on!!!
Serisously I didnt help her with this at all

Memories of 2008/ New York

As the year is coming to an end, I will be taking a look back at some things that happened mainly in my life but maybe a couple of other events as well. Most of you know it has been a rough year but I am focusing on the good things that happened. These are in no specific order. Infact the first is probablyone of my favorites.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

So I was just going to take Emma to go out and see her Aunt LeeAnn in Delaware. I just wanted to pick a time that we could go see a Yankee game since they are tearing down Yankee Stadium and this would be my last chance to see a game there. This was my second trip to the stadium. As I am looking at the schedule I got pumped because the time we would be out there, the Red Sox were in town. Not only that but it was the last time that the Red Sox would play at Yankee Stadium. Things looked bleak for the Yankees early in the game as they feel behind. However, the game went into extra innings and Jason Giambi hit a game winning, walk off single up the middle to drive in the winning run.
It was great to go see Yankee Stadium one last time. Thanks to my sister once again for buying the tickets for us. I know the only reason she bought the tickets so that I would bring Emma out to see her, but I still appreciate it. Here are some pictures of that great day.

Just think if there was drinking in the bleachers of Yankee Stadium

Former Bethel Student Justin Masterson pitching for the Red Sox. The only bad thing about this game was that he did get the loss for the Red Sox.
