Today in History

Alot of events happned on this day in history
1816 Indiana became the 19th state.
1928 - NL Pres John Heydler proposes designated hitter for pitchers. Thank goodness this never happened.
1934 - NL votes to permit night baseball (up to 7 games per home team). The Cubs didnt have lights at Wrigly for centurys after this.
1941, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States; the U.S. responded in kind. And we kicked their butts!!! USA USA USA!!!!
1951 Joe DiMaggio announces his baseball retirement. 15 years with the Yankees
1961 A U.S. aircraft carrier carrying Army helicopters arrived in Saigon - the first direct American military support for South Vietnam's battle against Communist guerrillas.
1972 Man landed on the moon for the last time during the Apollo 17 mission.
1985 - The single "Superbowl Shuffle" by Chicago Bears Shufflin' Crew was released. I have a copy of this on DVD
1998 The House Judiciary Committee approved three articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton. And yet nothing happened. People dont like Bush for forget what Clinton was about.
2000 Shortstop Alex Rodriguez agreed to a $252 million 10-year deal with the Texas Rangers, the most lucrative sports contract in history.
2001 - It was announced that Little League Baseball Inc. would require more detailed documentation of the eligibility of its players. Four months before, the Rolando Paulino Little League team from the Bronx, NY, had its third-place finish taken away after pitcher Danny Almonte was found to be too old to play. Even if the kid was too old, he was still a stud. I wonder where he is now?
2002 A congressional report found that intelligence agencies before Sept. 11, 2001, were poorly organized, poorly equipped and slow to pursue clues that might have prevented that day's terrorist attacks. Seems like a waste of time. Lets look to the future. We only have ourselves to blame.
